Pink hydrangea has always been and will continue to be one of the most stunning
cut flowers available. There are many varieties of pink hydrangea available ranging from pale pink,
mid pink, cerise pink and bi-colour varieties. Pink hydrangeas, just like any other hydrangea, is
unique because as the season progresses the petal colours will change depending on the type and
amount of minerals the plant has taken up. As a result pink hydrangeas are not variety colour
specific like roses and delphiniums for example. Each crop will be a slightly different tone
from the other.
The best quality pink hydrangeas are grown under glass in Holland specifically
for the cut flower market. These blooms are non comparable to outdoor pink hydrangea plants -
the stems are stronger, the foliage is deep and glossy and the flower heads are much larger and
perfectly formed. The colours are always 'cleaner' as well. Sometimes cut pink hydrangea is
imported from Colombia, but it is not in the same league as the glasshouse grown
Dutch blooms.
In general pink hydrangea is available between May and September, covering the
main wedding months of the year in the UK. It is fair to say that the biggest usage of pink
hydrangea is for wedding flowers. They are just perfect for bridal bouquets, table arrangements,
church and venue decoration. Their beauty is such that they can be used all on there own with just
a little foliage to compliment, but also combine with just about any other flower to create a soft
elegant and luxurious look and feel to any occasion.
We found a very good information page about hydrangeas of all varieties on a
